IBESI has agreed to a $2000 sponsorship of RecentChangesCamp.
This is fantastic news!
RecentChangesCampSponsors – cool, MarkDilley
Michael … I'm not from Seattle, but LionKimbro and PhilMitchell are and they are both signed up for RecentChangesCamp. Perhaps you can swing a ride with one of them?
I propose we spend a bit of money on travel scholarships. Mark, are you interested in figuring out how we'd do this? Who needs them and how much? As of right this moment, I'd like to spend money on a brunch or two. What do you say, Brandon?
Just received the $3000 from Atlassian
Scholarships seem tricky, but would be awesome if we could figure out how to do them. A couple of brunches would also be super. Figure out the numbers and I'm game
In the interests of financial transparency, I plan to scan and post a copy of all receipts for all camp expenses. Seem like a reasonable policy to the rest of you alls?
I feel overwhelmed by the issue of travel assistance. My preference is to not use any of the sponsor dollars to cover travel expenses. Many folks have already stretched beyond their means in order to attend. If you feel that you need to be here, figure out how to swing it yourself. If you feel that someone else needs to be here, figure out how to make it happen. I've decided to use my own funds to purchase tickets for RicHARDMakepeace and RaviArapurakal. This is a poor financial decision for my family … AND … I can't bear not to do it. Once the tickets have been factored in, my personal financial contribution to this conference will amount to about $3000. This is a significant amount for Shelley and I. We currently gross about $36,000 per year and have nearly $200,000 in medical school loans that will have to be paid off sometime. Honestly, it feels great to sacrifice and contribute in this way … AND … I think my good feelings will turn into grudging feelings if we use sponsorship dollars to fund travel. I hope this explanation makes sense.
If you'd like to help a specific individual attend … let them (or me) know. All I ask is that you don't ask me to choose who to sponsor for you. I'd be happy to chat with you about the individuals who need sponsorship, just not tell you who to choose.
